Breaking Golf news: Harrington fails to set his mark on the second day of the Vivendi Cup
The second round of the Vivendi Cup is in process at the Retz and Marley course and even today, Padraig Harrington failed to shine on the leaderboard.
Harrington wrapped up the second round with a two under. He is ten strokes away from the reigning leader, Jarmo Sandelin. Sandelin has covered only fifteen holes and he is already 12 under. He is followed
by John Parry on eleven under after 16 holes and Julien Guerrier with ten under after 18 holes.
The first round leader, Johan Edfors is currently playing the last hole and he is already 9 under. This likely means this chances of shining in the remainder of the Cup have been washed away.
39 year old Harrington, who hasn’t been at the top of his game, was given a wild card from the captain of the European Ryder Cup team only a month back. The only reason that forced Monty to pursue this decision was Harrington’s
experience with the Ryder Cup. Even then, the player failed to put in some effort. Earlier, he started the day with a score of four under but down the lane, he missed a few shots. He double-bogeyed the fifth hole and tripled bogeyed the twelfth. This series
of bogeys did not stop there though as two more arrived before the 16th. However, he birdied all of the four par-5 holes of the Retz course. This was not an easy task but ultimately he had to settle for a par score.
Harrington is currently standing at the 22nd spot according to the FedEx ranking and he is the only player who falls in the top 80s. Despite that, he failed to give a good enough challenge to rest of the field. Harrington’s
poor performance makes one wonder whether Monty made a mistake in preferring him to Paul Casey.
Moving onto Casey, he is the world number seven and he is currently in
Atlanta, where the Tour Championship is taking place. Despite being kicked out of the Ryder Cup, Casey has not let that affect his play and is standing at the top of leaderboard on the first day.
