Breaking News: Arsene Wenger gears up to face Fulham as Scott Brown nears full fitness for Celtic
Arsene Wenger has come out and stated his team’s intent to compete in all remaining competitions this season as they won their latest quarter final clash against Wigan Athletic in the Carling Cup. Despite the fact that the Frenchman made nine changes to
his first team, the Gunners ended up as easy winners in the end over a second string Wigan Athletic side. However, upcoming matches against Manchester United and Partizan Belgrade will define Arsenal’s future in the 2010-2011 season as they must win against
Partizan to progress to the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.
On the other hand, a defeat to Manchester United will be a severe dent to Arsenal’s title bid, a bid that is going strong at the moment despite suffering four defeats this season in the Premier League. Wenger spoke about his team’s chances of winning silverware
this season, as he said, "We are in a strong position in every single competition - that means overall the attitude is right, the spirit of the squad is right”
He added, "I am confident we have the necessary quality, so let's continue to improve." Arsenal sealed their place in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup with the win against Wigan but another positive that emerged out of the win was the fact that Van Persie
completed 73 minutes of first team action since his comeback from an ankle injury. However, Nasri is set to be a fitness doubt for the weekend’s match against Fulham.
Arsenal’s manager said, “Nasri has got a knock from Tuesday night. It is a knee problem but he should be all right. Apart from that, we do not have any fresh players injured. There are no other ins or outs. [Abou] Diaby and [Thomas] Vermaelen are not available.
Fabregas is still injured, so it will be a similar squad to the Aston Villa game."
The Frenchman spoke about Robin Van Persie’s fitness level as he said, "I will see how Robin recovers [before deciding whether to start him]. I rotate a bit from game to game at the moment, so I will see - but we have quite a strong squad available."
Alternatively, Celtic’s captain, Scott Brown is set to see a medical specialist on Monday to determine the extent of his injury. Brown has been out of action for the hoops ever since he suffered a metatarsal injury in October, 2010. His potential return
to action is expected somewhere in January, although the Celtic skipper admitted he would love to be fit for the January 2nd clash against Glasgow Rangers.
Scott Brown said in his latest interview, "Hopefully I'm not too far away. I'll go down to see a specialist on Monday and we will take it from there. I'm still not too sure yet when I'll be back, I will need to wait and see what the specialist says. The
main thing is that I need to take my time and make sure everything is perfect so that I can hopefully come back 100%."
