Breaking News: Bayern and Inter both win as Kroos and Muntari strike
The two finalists of the 2009 UEFA Champions League final both secured Friday night wins as Inter Milan conquered Genoa whilst Bayern Munich bested Freiburg. It was a tough night for the Italian champions and the European champions in
Serie A, as Rafael Benitez’s side found it hard to break down a resilient Inter Milan side.
If this wasn’t enough, they had to take advantage of a huge error from Genoa’s goalkeeper to get their first and only goal of the match. The win came at a steep price however as Inter Milan suffered injuries to their key star players both
in midfielder and at the back. Goalkeeper, Julio Cesar injured his ribs during the match whereas Esteban Cambiasso also suffered an injury due to which he was substituted with Muntari in the 19th minute of the match.
Inter Milan took no precaution from the start of the match as they deployed their best eleven men against Genoa, regardless of the fact that they face Tottenham Hotspurs at the White Hart Lane in the up-coming midweek UEFA Champions’ League
group stage round of matches. It was Muntari’s weak striker that became the source of embarrassment for Eduardo, who made a meal of the shot as it dribbled past him into the goal.
The fortuitous goal gave Inter the lead which they held onto till the end of the match. The three points against Genoa have propelled Inter to the second place spot in the Serie A, where they are currently the present Italian champions
after they won the Scudetto as well as the UEFA Champions League under Jose Mourinho in the 2009-2010 season.
On the other hand, Bayern Munich also got their season back on tract as they scored four goals to two win over Freiburg. The moment of the match came when Toni Kroos buried a 25 yard strike to cement Bayern’s lead. It was a marvellous
shot by the German midfielder who is seen as the next big thing in German league football.
Bayern Munich started the 2010-2011 club football season off in the most disappointing of ways but they have steadily gathered form and now are looking quite dangerous as they play their way back into the Bundesliga title race. The Munich
club are now unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions. Martin Demichelis gave Bayern the lead as the Argentinean pounced on a superb cross from the right hand side of midfield.
Mario Gomez added to Bayern’s lead shortly after with his header as Pranjic delivered accurately from a corner. The German champions, suffered a setback as Stefan Reisinger pulled a goal back for Freiburg but Tymoshuck and Kroos’s goals
gave Bayern a comfortable win in the end despite a late own goal by Edson Braafhied.
