Breaking News: Chris Hughton fired by Newcastle United
Chris Hughton has become the first English Premier League manager to be relieved of his duties in the 2010-2011 season after the Newcastle man failed to secure a result against West Bromwich Albion in their latest encounter in the English league. Chris’s
departure was foreseen some weeks back as there were only six months left on his contract with the club, despite getting fabulous results for the Magpies in their return to the Premier League, the Hughton was fired by the club due to his “lack of experience.”
In his short tenure, which just lasted 13 months, Chris Hughton took Newcastle United to the summit of The Championship earlier this year and in doing so he secured their spot in the 2010-2011 English Premier League competition. Such a feat was remarkable
in itself but it wasn’t enough for Newcastle to keep him at the club. Despite of defeating Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and then obtaining a draw against Chelsea at the Saint James’s Park, Newcastle’s manager was told that he was no longer needed at the
club on 6th of December, 2010.
Newcastle are currently 11th in the English Premier League table, a position that they quite rightly deserve. Mike Ashley, the owner of Newcastle United was the person who made the final call in Hughton’s case as he decided to terminate the Irishman’s
contract with the Tyneside club. In the past, Newcastle have been known to act on instinct as they changed three managers in less than 10 months in the 2008-2009 season, a season which ended in relegation for the former UEFA Champions League participants.
The immediate reaction for Newcastle’s fans is of shock to say the least. Not only that, the LMA, League Manager’s Association is also in shock due to Hughton’s dismissal from Newcastle United as he had done an above average job with the current crop of
individuals at Saint James’s Park. Hughton released a statement after his dismissal from Newcastle United.
He said in the statement, "We have built on last season's momentum following promotion back up to the Premier League and have produced some excellent results to see us sitting midway in the table at this stage of the season. I am immensely proud of my achievements
with Newcastle and I enjoyed a fantastic relationship with the players, my staff and the supporters during my time as manager.”
He added, "I now wish them and the club all the very best for the future. The termination of my contract is now in the hands of the LMA and I will therefore be making no further comment at this stage."
