Breaking News: David Beckham backs Real Madrid for La Liga crown
Real Madrid star, David Beckham has backed the Los Blancos to reclaim the La Liga crown from arch rivals, Barcelona.
Real Madrid is in top form this season, having not lost even a single match in any competition. Since the arrival of Jose Mourinho this season, Real Madrid has become one of the toughest teams in Europe and is currently top of the Primera Division. Mourinho
has transformed the club into a well organized team, fully able to decimate any opposition at will.
Mourinho is considered to be the most successful manager of his era, having won all the major titles in the Portuguese, English and Italian Leagues. The manager has also won the UEFA Champions League two times and now looks to become the only manager to
defend the coveted trophy. His last season with Inter Milan had also ended with a treble of trophies and guided the Italian club to their first European Cup in almost 50 years.
But, Mourinho hasn't managed to win a single trophy in the last 2 years while Barcelona has become one of the most respected sides in football. In the 08/09 season, Barcelona managed never seen before sextuple of trophies, when they won all the competitions
that they participated in. However, now things can change with Mourinho taking charge of the Spanish giants.
Real Madrid is arguably the most successful club in European Competitions' history, having lifted the trophy for a record 9 times, and are currently undefeated this season in 12 games, winning 9 in all competitions. It may be too early to predict anything
as of yet, but Beckham certainly backs his former club to end its trophy drought this season.
"As much as I respect Barcelona and think it's a great club, my heart is always with Real Madrid”, said the 35 year old midfielder. "So, I believe that this year, with the manager they've got in, with Florentino (Perez, Madrid President) - I love Florentino
who is such a great man and makes special things happen at the club - so with him there, with the players they've got at the club, I believe they will be number one this year", added the former Manchester United player.
Beckham had spend his four successful seasons at Real Madrid before agreeing a transfer to his current club, Los Angeles Galaxy three years back. The player also praised the impact of Mourinho on the club, maintaining that he has extreme respect for the
Portuguese coach who was one of the first people to send him a message regarding his injury.
Meanwhile, the midfielder joked over the question of who should be awarded the FIFA Ballon d’Or, saying that although David Villa deserves the award, he would instead choose Iker Casillas because both of them are good friends.
