Breaking News: Diego Maradona eyes Premiership job
Former Argentinean star and coach, Diego Maradona has expressed his desire to manage a Premier League club in the near future.
The Argentine now looks for new employment since his sacking from Argentinean national side this summer, where he endured a disappointing World Cup Campaign in South Africa. The legendary midfielder took Argentina to the quarter finals of the tournament,
but ended the campaign with a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Germany.
Maradona was criticized for taking too much youth in his side while at the same time ignoring the likes of Javier Zanetti and Estaban Cambiasso, who both had wonderful seasons with Inter Milan. Both these players were an integral part of Inter Milan's first
ever treble winning season last year but were completely ignored by the 50 year old.
That was probably the main reason for Maradona’s failure as he focused only on the attacking side of the game and wasn't concerned about the defence. However, the 50 year old now wants to have another go at the management and English Premier League tops
his lists for employment.
While talking to the media, he said, "Yes, I would like to manage in the Premier League. It has very good teams, an exceptional level and great players. The only problem is all the teams I like in England have good coaches. If any important job comes along
I will accept it."
Maradona is already rumoured with a possible move to several English clubs which includes the vacant post at Aston Villa. But, the legend doesn't seem interested in managing such a club.
"I want to make it clear that I didn't offer myself for any job, nor did anyone offer me anything. But I know I will go back with the national team some day that is my fate. I'm waiting”, claimed the smug former coach.
The legendary star wasn't happy by the way his side crashed out of the World Cup in the summer, especially when it seemed that the Argentine FA would’ve extended his stay as the head coach.
"They took away the national team from me unfairly. I don't want to talk about it, it doesn't deserve any words. I am in too good a mood to talk about people who don't deserve my words. But I do miss the national team”, maintained the former World Player
of the Year.
Maradona was the most impressive footballer of his era. A player of such calibre can surely become a mega coach in the Premier League, especially with his impressive 78% winning percentage with the Argentina national side.
