Breaking News: EPL Daily Round Up: Arsenal
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is expected to employ a strong squad in the mid-week Carling Cup match against Newcastle United. The side has not won single trophy for the past 5 seasons and would welcome any silverware this season. The League Cup (Aka the
Carling Cup) is considered to be the easiest trophy in any season as Arsenal would be looking to end their 5 year trophy drought. Owing to this, the manager is expected to play many of the first team players in the match against Newcastle United. Injured forwards
Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott have fully recovered from their respective injuries and were given an important run in this weekend’s league win over Manchester City. Both the players have been confirmed for the Carling Cup match and Bendtner, who scored
the 3rd goal against City, is expected to be handed his first after a lay-off of around 6 months.
Carling Cup is considered to be a cup for the youngsters and Arsenal are expected to play many players from their academy. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Kieran Gibbs and Henri Lansbury are also expected to be the cut while shot-stopper Wojciech Szczesny is also expected
to make an appearance. Arsenal currently sits on the 2nd spot in the Premier League owing to the goal difference, as Manchester United and Manchester City have the same points. The Gunners are still expected to be without centre backs Laurent Koscielny
and Thomas Vermaelen, while first choice goal keeper Manuel Almunia still has to spend more time on the side-lines owing to ankle injury. Apart from these disappointments, Robin Van Persie and Aaron Ramsey are near their return to first team action but wouldn’t
be available for this fixture.
Arsenal were fortunate this weekend to have defeated an under-par Manchester City on the away leg. City had to deal with an early set back when defender Boyata was given the Red Card owing to his rash tackle on Chamakh in the 5th minute. Many
experts consider that to be the major reason behind City’s loss at home to Arsenal and things may have been very different had City played on their full strength. Nonetheless, a win is a win and that win has catapulted the side into the second spot. The Gunners
are five points behind leaders Chelsea but would want to concentrate on the League Cup fixture.
Newcastle United defeated English Champions Chelsea 4-3 in the 3rd round to reach so far in the competition therefore it would be imprudent if Arsenal takes them lightly. Wenger is a smart manager and would want to employ the right mix in this
important 4th Round Carling Cup match against Newcastle United.
