Breaking News: EPL Roundup - Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers
Newly appointed manager Gerard Houllier is unsure whether club captain Stiliyan Petrov would need to go under the knife to heal from his knee issue. Houllier would want nothing more but to have the skipper back in the ranks without having
to undergo surgery on his ligament injury suffered while playing against Sunderland this weekend. In this scenario, Petrov may well be back in training within two months, which is the best case scenario. However, a surgery may change everything and the manager
would want nothing more but to avoid such an ordeal.
"The worse case is that Stiliyan will be out for a minimum of two months. I think we should know by the end of the week whether he needs an operation or not. Let's keep our fingers crossed he doesn't require one as it could then be treated
conservatively which will be the best scenario. The worst scenario, of course, is needing the operation. But Stiliyan is a strong lad who has had to go through injuries before and he has always come back,” stated the former Liverpool coach.
Aston Villa has become stable since the arrival of Gerrard Houiller at the helm of the club. The club has become more settled and composed in their approach to games and have managed some impressive results in the league. This includes
their 0-0 draw over Chelsea this season, something which many top clubs, including Arsenal, have failed to do. Aston Villa remains the only side in the league that has managed to draw a fixture against the rather unstoppable Chelsea side.
The side are currently on 11 points in 9 fixtures, which a good result considering that the side is level in points with four other sides. Gerard Houiller is an established manager is considered to be on the best of his era. His tactics
and understanding of football surpasses many in the field and is one of the most respectable coaches of his era. The Frenchman took his boyhood club Olympic Lyon to two straight French first division titles but resigned from club in 2007 owing to personal
reasons.
In other news, Blackburn Rovers have confirmed the date of Rover’s Lancashire Senior club quarter final. The match is to be played on 17th Jan 2011 in the Rover’s Senior training Centre at Brockhall. It was the
undying effort of reserve coach Ian Brunskill side that led to Rovers reaching the last eight of the competition. Rovers managed a narrow 3-2 win over Rochdale this Tuesday to book their place into the quarter finals of the competition.
