Breaking News: EPL Round up - Chelsea
Chelsea centre back Alex compares the tactics of his club to his country and claims that that is the major reason behind Chelsea’s current form in all competitions. In their 13 fixtures, Chelsea have managed to lose only two, while have
drawn one in the premier league. Apart from that, the side has a 100% winning streak at home and have not conceded a single goal at Stamford Bridge for the past 13 Hours (playing time).
Since the arrival of former AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti, the side has transformed into a lethal force and managed their first ever domestic double last season, which was the Italian’s first season at the club. This season, Chelsea maintained
a 100% win record for the first 5 fixtures, but lost the sixth one to Manchester City on the away leg. Chelsea still hold the best goal difference in the Premier League, which is positive 23 and remain on the summit of the Premier League table. Their inability
to concede a single league goal at Stamford Bridge remains a league record while having managed to score 25 goals in 9 premier league fixtures.
Alex, who is currently on a recovery from his thigh issue, scored a spectacular free-kick against Arsenal two weeks ago. The player used pace, swerve and accuracy to get the ball to the back of the net from 25 yards and remains the best
goal of the season so far.
"The way we've been playing throughout this year, I would liken us to Brazil. Brazilian teams have the same mentality. They just want to attack. However, there is one difference - here we try to have more composure in defence", claimed
the 28 year old centre back.
Alex joined the Premier League side from Brazilian club Santos in 2008 and has since made over 80 appearances for the London based club. Alex was a second choice centre back, behind the ever reliable Ricardo Carvalho. However, with Carvalho
now playing for Spanish Giants Real Madrid, Alex has taken over the centre back position permanently and has formed a formidable partnership with club Captain Chelsea. Alex has also been pivotal for the Brazilian national side, having chalked up 17 appearances
since his first call-up in 2008.
With Inter Milan centre back Lucio nearing his retirement from the outfit, Alex would be expected to take over that position. His free-kick abilities compares him to Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos, as he uses a similar outward swing on
the ball as Carlos himself.
