Breaking News: EPL Roundup - Everton
Former Manchester United left back Phil Neville has given an insight over the situation of midfielder Steven Pienaar. The club Captain has claimed that the management has done everything in their power to convince and persuade the 28 year
old for signing a new contract with the club, but there has been no progress.
The South African star was offered a lucrative offer from the Merseyside club this summer but has refused any negotiation owing to the player being linked to many overseas clubs. Phill Neville therefore confirmed that the entire decision
of the player’s future depends on what the 28 year old wants and nothing more can be done. Neville was delighted to see, however, that Pienaar was still performing at the highest level, despite so much uncertainty and therefore, applauded the player’s professionalism
towards the game.
"To be fair to Steven he's got that hanging over him, but he keeps playing well for us. It would be a massive blow to lose him. He's such an influential character. But it happened to Joleon Lescott a few years ago and we didn't want him
to move. It's happened to other big players. But we as players can't do anything about it. You can say to Steven every minute of every day that we don't want him to leave but at the end of the day it's his decision,” claimed the 32 year old.
Neville explained that Pienaar has had vast experience in football, having played in South Africa, Ajax and Dortmund, before signing a deal with the Merseyside club four years ago. Neville stated that the player has enjoyed his best days
with Everton and the club would want him to extend his stay.  The skipper was well aware of what the midfielder was doing, stating that Pienaar is just considering his options with other clubs. However, Neville stated that he wouldn’t want to get in between
this issue as it is a complicated one.
“I wouldn't want another player delving into it, if I was in this situation. It's between the manager, Steven and the chairman. It's just up to Steven to make the right decision now," stated the right back. Since his arrival at the club
in 2008, the player has made over 60 appearances for the Merseyside club, having scored 7 league goals. The player was awarded with the captain’s armband for the hosts of this summer’s FIFA World Cup and assisted the first goal of the tournament.
If Pienaar does decide to leave Everton, there would be many clubs looking for the services of the talent attacking midfielder. There are many clubs who are short of personnel in the midfield and Pienaar would be the perfect replacement
in any midfield position.
