Breaking News: EPL Round Up: Manchester United
Manchester United: Chelsea skipper and English international John Terry has claimed that Wayne Rooney’s contract signing is expected to kick things off for Manchester United. Wayne Rooney signed a five year contract with the Red Devils,
but it was not without a week long saga. The English striker had expressed his desire to leave the Manchester based club owing to lack of summer signings and wasn’t happy with the direction of the club.
Rooney was a one man army for the Red Devils last season, where he scored 34 goals in 44 appearances. However, that form and quality couldn’t win much silverware for the club and in the end United had to settle for the Runner up spot in the Premier League.
United crashed out of the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich in the quarter finals therefore what they were left with was the League Cup trophy. Despite this, the club failed to add any big name players to their now aged squad and Wayne Rooney
wasn’t happy with the way things were developing.
However, after receiving assurance from the management and owners about the direction of the club, Rooney signed a long term contract with the club, which would keep the 25 year old at the club till 2015. A wage rate in the region of 150-190 thousand pounds
a week has been decided for the English star hence Chelsea skipper believes that this deal would give the former Champions a much needed boost.
"I think Wayne staying will boost them and make it harder for us. On the back of what has happened United will probably go and spend in January and at the end of the season. The fact that clubs haven't been buying because of what's happened financially in
the world has maybe helped Chelsea in the last few years. Wazza staying is massive for them", claimed the 29 year old centre back.
Chelsea is in unstoppable form this season, having won 7 out of 9 premier league fixtures in the Premier League. The side currently leads the table with 22 points and are 5 points ahead of Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United. However, United still
remain the only undefeated side in the Premier League and managed their first away win of the season against Stoke City this weekend. The side has been doing fairly without Wayne Rooney so far, who is still sidelined for another three weeks owing to ankle
concern. However, the player remains the club’s most important player and would be welcomed by fans and players alike to help the side to stay in the title race.
