Breaking News: EPL Roundup - Blackpool
Blackpool’s record breaking 1 million pound signing DJ Campbell expects to get back on the scoring sheet soon. Since his arrival at the newly promoted premier league club, Campbell has managed to score just one goal in five Premier League
appearances. The player managed an unstoppable shot from close range against Newcastle in the opening weeks but feels he needs to end his goal drought sooner than later.
The player has produced a string of good performances against top sides in the form of Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City but it is the finishing that is lacking. That is the reason behind the 28 year old looking to get his name on the scoring
sheet, claiming that the goal drought may end in this week’s match against West Bromwich Albion.
"I am pleased with my performances, but obviously disappointed not to have a few more goals," he said. "I should have had a few more really, because I've had a few good chances which I should have put away. I believe in myself, I just
need to be patient. I feel like I'm inches away. I feel there is a good run coming on and a few goals on the way, so I just have to keep getting in the right places and fingers crossed it will happen," claimed the former Leicester City player.
Campbell was greatly impressive in his time with the Isthmian League back in 2003, where he scored a total of 65 goals in 88 appearances in two seasons. That is an impressive record for the then 22 year old but has not managed to duplicate
that form in the premier league. Campbell played some important goals for Blackpool’s premier league promotion season last year. In his one year loan term at the club, the player managed to score 11 goals from 18 Championship appearances, which led to Blackpool
manager Ian Holloway securing the services of the player on a permanent basis. The manager worried himself sick, literally, when he had to spend 1 million pounds to hire the player but was delighted to have Campbell in the ranks. On his arrival, Holloway backed
Campbell to be the next big thing in the premier league and claimed that the player’s finishing ability surpasses many of the top strikers.
Campbell would therefore want to repay the faith of his manager and start scoring more goals in order to remain the part of the first team. Failure to do so and Blackpool management may decide to bench the player and that would be the
last thing to do for the 28 year old striker.
