Breaking News: EPL Roundup - Manchester United.
Manchester United was proud to announce the acquisition of the 1966 World Cup Winners’ medal belonging to former player Nobby Stiles. Manchester United paid a record sum of £188,200 for the acquisition of the gold, which was put on auction
by the player himself in Edinburgh. The price paid by United beat that paid by English star Allan Ball for his own World Cup medal a few years back.
The midfielder was a product of Manchester United’s youth squad and was one of the best box to box players of his era. It was his long ball that led Geoff Hurst to score the controversial 3rd goal against West Germany
at Extra time. The now 68 year old made total proceedings of £424,438 from a collection of his personal artefacts which were put on sale. A total of 45 things were put on auction and United bought many of the things belonging to their former player. It has
been confirmed that all of these items would be put on display at the club’s museum soon.
The former United player claimed that his intentions was to leave most of these artefacts to his off-spring, but couldn’t decide how to divide them equally among his 3 sons. Among the things put on auction was Stiles famous football cap
he wore in the 1966 World Cup final at Wembley, which was sold for £35,287. Stiles was part of the Manchester United squad who won the club’s first ever European cup in 1968 and the winners medal along with a Blue shirt he wore against Benfica were also bought
by United for £49,402 and £30,582 respectively.
"It was always my intention to leave the entire collection to my children. But I have three sons - how do you fairly divide up this sort of collection between them? They have each selected some pieces they would like to keep for themselves,”
claimed the 68 year old.
Stiles is undoubtedly one of the greats of English football and Manchester United pride themselves over acquisition of such price-less items. United have rich heritage and have always encouraged such historical items to be displayed in
their famous museum.  It is noble thing done from the club to help the player raise finances for his family and has kept the history intact in keeping the medal at the club. The artefact may well have been “ebay-ed” after the death of the English legend.
In short, it was a respectable action from a respectable club.
