Breaking Football News: FIFA give verdict on corruption scandal
FIFA has taken a firm decision against its executive committee members; Amos Adamu and Reynald Temarii; both of the members were allegedly involved in a bribery scandal which involved exchange of votes for the bids regarding the 2018 and the 2022 World Cups.
At first both the members were suspended until the investigation was carried out but now it was been confirmed that Adamu has been fined ten thousand Swiss francs whereas Temarii has been fined five thousand Swiss francs.
Adamu has already come out in the media and declared that he will be fighting against the verdict that was given by the FIFA ethics committee. He has said that he will appeal the verdict when he told media, "I am profoundly disappointed with the Ethics Committee's
findings and had honestly believed I would be exonerated of any charges by now. I am innocent of all the charges levelled against me by the Ethics Committee and I completely refute the decision they have made. As yet I have not been advised of the grounds
of the Ethics Committee's decision but regardless, I will be lodging a full appeal against it with immediate effect."
FIFA is also currently investigating the corruption scandal related to the Spain and Portugal bid for the 2018 World Cup and Qatar’s bid to host the 2022 World Cup. Both the host parties have been allegedly involved in exchange of votes for each other’s
prospective campaigns, something that is against FIFA’s rules. Ethics committee recently announced that they had not found any sufficient grounds to declare a concrete collusion on the allegations that there was a trade of votes between the two host bids.
FIFA has also suspended and fined four other members, all four were ex-members of its executive committee, the most powerful committee in FIFA. Ismael Bhamjee of Botswana was given a 4-year ban from all football linked and related activities, while Amadou
Diakite of Mali and Ahongalu Fusimalohi of Tonga were suspended for 3 years and Tunisian official Slim Aloulou for two. All four were also fined 10,000 Swiss francs. FIFA is set to make a decision on which nation should host the 2018 and the 2022 World Cups
on 2nd of December, 2010.
Portugal-Spain, Netherlands-Belgium, England and Russia are in the running to host the 2018 World Cup whereas America, South Korea-Japan, Qatar, Australia are in a race to host the 2022 World Cup.
