Breaking News - Football:  Herve Renard becomes the new Al-Masry Coach
Egyptian club Al-Masry have named Herve Renard the new coach of the side. The former Zambia and Angola national teams coach is given the role after the Egyptian football giants; Al Ahly dropped him as a candidate for their new coach job.
The Frenchman was initially interested in coaching the Cairo giants and was thought to be one of the top candidates to take the hot seat after the resignation of Hossam Al-Badri.
But, Al-Ahly have already said that a new manager has been selected but his identity has not yet been disclosed to the media.
The Port Said based football club said on their official website that their Chairman, Kamel Aboul-Ali successfully struck a deal with the Frenchman that will keep Renard at Al-Masry till the end of this season.
Renard’s most famous managerial success also came in Egypt when his Zambia side held the Pharaohs to a 1-1 draw in a World Cup qualifier in Cairo in 2009.
He also led minnows Zambia to the quarterfinals of the African Cup in January for the first time in almost 14 years.
Al-Masry are one of the most successful Egyptian clubs and after being founded in 1920, had a great era in 1932 which lasted till 1948. During that time, the club managed to claim a number of titles.
Al-Masry were the only Egyptian club that turned professional in the 1983-84 season and introduced the transfer of foreign players in Egypt.
In other African football news, Ugandan national team will take part in the three day Egyptian Nile Basin tournament that starts in January.
The event will be organized by the Egyptian Football Association that would also pay for the air tickets and accommodation for all the participating teams.
Robert Williamson, coach of Ugandan Cranes is fully focused on the tournament and is looking to utilize the 3-day event as means to take his side one step ahead in the bid to qualify for the African Cup of Nations and the World Cup.
The English coach has been successful with the Uganda side and has guided the Cranes to 2 consecutive CECAFA titles in 2008 and 2009.
