Breaking News: Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt severely injured
Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has suffered from a severe injury to his ankle while playing for the national side and could be out for a long time. The player was featuring in Netherland’s impressive victory over Sweden, when the Dutch thrashed the Swedes 4-1.
However, it wasn’t good news for the Liverpool man as he suffered an ankle concern just before the half hour mark. It is certainly not good news for a club who is already going through a crisis situation and may well be in danger of administration. Kuyt
was stretchered of the field by the medical staff and was rushed to the nearest hospital, signifying that the injury was of a serious nature. Dutch national team coach Bert van Marwijk has confirmed that initial scans and tests point towards a bad situation
for the 30-year-old and may face a long period on the sidelines.
"The doctor's first opinion is it could be very serious and keep him sidelined for a long time," claimed the Dutch coach. This is bad news for Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson, who is currently busy preparing for his first ever Merseyside derby this weekend
with Everton.
Moreover, Daniel Agger was unable to feature for the entire 90 minutes for the Danish national side as well and was substituted just before half-time. The player featured in the match after making a full recovery from his groin concern but couldn’t take
the pressure and was taken off the field. So far, nothing can be said about the situation of both the players and an official statement of the club has been released.
“Both Kuyt and Agger will be assessed now when they return to Melwood to see whether they will be available for Sunday's Merseyside derby,” read the club’s statement.
Liverpool’s decision regarding club takeover by Bolton Red Sox owner has been taken to court and decision is to be reached today at 10:30 GMT. If the bid fails, the club has a heavy chance of going into relegation and may fell face a 9 point deduction. With
Kuyt and Agger out of the picture, Hodgson would have to turn to other players for the all important Merseyside Derby. There are no injuries in the Everton camp and David Moyes would be expected to play a full team.
