The following is from sherdog.com:

Former UFC champion Mark Coleman has withdrawn from a heavyweight tilt with upstart Brock Lesnar scheduled for UFC 87: Seek and Destroy on August 9 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn., due to a knee injury, UFC.com announced on Thursday.

Coleman, 43, confirmed that he tore his MCL in training and will be sidelined for six weeks. The injury will not require surgery. The replacement bout will be George St. Pierre vs. John Fitch for the UFC Welterweight championship.

What are your thoughts on this?

  1. To be honest I think that I am much more excited about this card now. Outside of Anderson Silva, GSP is the best PFP fighter in MMA. This match-up against Jon Fitch (the #1 contender), winner of his last 15 pro fight, will be a treat to watch.

As far as Lesnar goes, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that his overrated, because no one whose opinion I care about has Lesnar as a top heavyweight. I would say that he is over hyped though. The only reason he was the headliner is because this fight is in Minnesota, where he made his name as a collegiate wrestler. Just another ploy by Dana White to make money instead of putting the best fights together.

  2. both of them r washed up anyway

  3. GSP v. Fitch should be a good fight

i would have much more liked watching lesner get hammered but i guess i will have to wait well now i can hope thompson smashes slice (not likely due to thompson glass jaw) but one can hope

slice and lesner are overrated and under tested

  4. The GSP vs Fitch will be a better main card event. They haven't removed the Lesnar fight; they are just not sure who should fight Lesnar. I would like to see them put him up against Herring, Hardonk or Kongo. All three would be a great match-up with Lesnar. I am kind of glad Coleman is out. He is known a little more with those fans who have watched MMA for awhile. While he has had great success in Japan... the new/average fan knows nothing about him. I think they should give him a match-up to get him reacquainted with fans. Then, maybe a match-up with Lesnar would be best plus pull in more fans.

  5. I want to see Lesnar fight someone better than coleman anyway...im fine with this...

However, GSP vs. Jon Fitch will definitely be a better fight than i think people are expecting.  At least i think it will be...theres nothing worse than all th hype and then the fight bombs...

hopefuly tomorow nights fights are good.

  6. I am kinda bummed that Coleman can't fight.  I was looking forward to that match.  I think Lesnar is to the UFC as Kimbo is to Elite....a money maker.

I am also stoked to see Fitch get a title shot against GSP.  It is really a toss up to me whether GSP and Anderson Silva pound for pound are the two best fighters around.  I think Fitch is going to have his hands full with this fight, but I am sure this will be a good entertaining fight.

  7. welp at leat its a title fight now. lesnar will hopefully get soeone to fight id like to see him get real good

  8. I was looking forward for that fight.

    War the hammer!

  9. Gutted I think that would have been good to. I bet Lesnar has learnt a few things since his Mir fight and I think this would have been good for him

  10. I am happy about this.  I hope that Lesner still fights that day, maybe against Heath Herring, Cheik Kongo or another heavyweight.

I was never really happy with that being Lesner's 2nd fight.
