Breaking News: Michael Owen confirms another injury setback
Manchester United's striker, Michael Owen has confirmed yet another hamstring concern while training with the first team.
The former Liverpool striker has been the most unimpressive player for United since his arrival at the club last season. The 30 year old striker managed only 9 goals from 31 appearances last season while he has scored thrice in 7 appearances this season.
Owen doesn’t look like his former self as while playing for Liverpool, he was considered to be the world’s best centre forward. For the Merseyside club, he had scored 158 goals in 297 appearances during his 8 years there and was also the best one-on-one
finisher.
But now, Owen’s only contribution towards United was his last second goal against Manchester City last season. It looked like a 3-3 draw when Craig Belamy equalized on the 89th minute but Owen had other plans.
The referee showed additional time of 4 minutes after the usual 90, and in the last possible instance, Owen was played beautifully by Ryan Giggs. Owen had just one glance at the goal and he managed a brilliant finish from his right foot to settle the match
in favour of Red Devils.
Owen had also managed the quickest Champions league hatrick last season, but that was against a low lying Besiktas side and all of the goals were tap in finishes. The player lacks aggression, burst of pace and class needed to be a first choice Manchester
United striker.
While talking to the media, Owen stated that he was all ready to feature against Wolves last night in the Carling Cup but picked up another injury on his already troublesome hamstring.
"I've trained for a week and had a setback with another muscle injury. I've got some damage in my hamstring and will be out for the next few weeks unfortunately", said the 30 year old.
Owen has been fragile since his return from Real Madrid 5 seasons ago and suffered a major injury while playing in the Carling Cup final last season. His career appeared to be heading towards a pre-mature end then when he couldn’t feature for the remaining
of the season and now also, it seems like a similar situation owing to his recent injury.
With this Manchester United head towards a tough week, when they will host Tottenham Hotspur in the league and then travel to Bursapor to face the Turkish Champions.
