Breaking News: Michael Owen to Aston Villa
Manchester United striker Michael Owen has expressed his desire to leave his current club and join up with former manager Gerard Houllier at Aston Villa.
The 30-year-old striker has not made an impact since his arrival at Manchester United last season, having scored 12 times in 38 appearances. The player clearly has no future at a club, which is already bulked with strikers of every age and nationality. With
Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Javier Hernandez and Federico Macheda already in the camp, Owen has no space at the club and has expressed his desire to leave.
The player wears the coveted number 7 shirt at United and his only contribution towards the side has been a last second goal against Manchester City. Owen managed a remarkable finish against the rivals, but his appearances have been limited at the club.
The player has made only 17 starts in two years with the club and would love to go to Aston Villa, where he would be guaranteed a first team spot under former manager Gerard Houllier.
Manchester United’s legendary number 7 shirt is worn by some of the top names in football. George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo are only some of the players wearing this legendary jersey but Owen clearly doesn’t live up to those
expectations.
Michael Owen began his career with Liverpool and was considered to be the best centre forwards of all time. With Liverpool, the player has made over 290 appearances and has scored 158 goals in all competitions. The player has won the premier league golden
boot twice. However, Owen left his boyhood club for bigger challenges in Spain, as the player moved to Real Madrid. At the time, Real Madrid was in the process of making their first Galacticos, where players like David Beckham, Zidane, Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo
were present at the club. Owing to this, Owen’s appearances at the club were restricted as he made only 35 appearances, most of them on the bench. However, Owen had the best scoring rate in terms of minutes played.
Manchester United’s manager can be expected to off load the player and perhaps call back the players loaned out to other clubs. Mame Biram Diouf and Danny Welbeck can be expected to make a comeback to fill in the spot.
