Breaking News: Owen Hargreaves to feature against West Bromwich Albion
Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves’ surgeon has hinted towards a possible appearance of the injury plagued midfielder in the premier league match against West Bromwich Albion.
Owen Hargreaves, who joined Manchester United in 2007, has only managed to make 38 appearances in the last 3 years. The player had a successful first season with the club, where his contributions in Europe led Manchester United to lift their third UEFA Champions
league trophy. The midfielder however, managed only 3 appearances in the next season and was later ruled out of the entire season. Hargreaves injury is because of an acute tendinitis concern on both his knees and only first experienced pain in the region while
playing for Bayern Munich.
By the end of last season, Hargreaves had gone under the knife on two occasions and extensive rehab work followed. Finally, he made his comeback to the club. Hargreaves managed to complete one half of a reserve game and also made an injury time appearance
in the premier league game against Sunderland. However, the player experienced more pain and his hopes to start this season have been severely damaged. The midfielder complained of discomfort after returning to full first team training and when the entire
squad was travelling to the US for a pre-season, Hargreaves went to Dr. Richard Steadman in America. Steadman is a world renowned doctor and his greatest achievement was rescuing the career of Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who had ruptured cruciate ligaments.
Hargreaves made a full recovery and returned to his club for perhaps his last time, stating that should he fail to make a comeback, he would quit the game for ever. However, the player’s doctor has full faith in his treatment and is positive that Hargreaves
would soon be playing in the first team.
"Owen should play some part on Saturday. Our physical therapist, Luke O'Brien, has been working very closely with United's coaches on his rehab. "It's been a long road back and there have been some setbacks along the way. But I've got a lot of admiration
for the way Owen has responded - he's worked very hard and has never given up. Things are looking good for him now," claimed Dr. Richard Steadman.
Hargreaves would play no part in Manchester United’s European campaign till January as he was omitted from the 25 man list. The player can however play in any domestic competition and a realistic date for his return would be in the Carling Cup bout against
Wolves on October 26th. The midfielder’s return would be welcomed by managers of both club and country as Fabio Capello is looking for a holding midfielder after the failure of Gareth Barry for that role.
