EPL Breaking News: Owen Hargreaves to return to Manchester United within two weeks
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that midfielder Owen Hargreaves would return to Manchester United “in a fortnight”.
The troubled midfielder was forced to miss the Red Devils pre-season as he returned to USA for more rehab program on his troubled knees. Hargreaves again went to see Dr. Richard Steadman to put an end to his long standing tendinitis injury, which has kept the former Bayern Munich star out of football for nearly 2 years.
Hargreaves did manage to make a short comeback last season, where he played one half of a reserves game and one minute of a Premier League game against Sunderland. Many thought that the midfielder would also get a call up from Fabio Capello, but he yet again had problems on his knees.
Many critics expect that this would Hargreaves’s last chance to get fit as he risks a premature end to his glorious career. The manager confirmed that he expects the midfielder to be back with Manchester United within the next two weeks.
"He seems to be making decent progress now. But if he comes back in two weeks when is he going to be fit to play for Manchester United? That is still to be found out", claimed the Scotsman.
The United boss did name the injured 29 year old in his 25 man premier league spot but completely excluded him from UEFA Champions league group phase team. This signals that Ferguson is not expecting the England International to be back by December.
The manager has revealed that it was important for him to include Hargreaves into the domestic squad, as that cannot be changed for the next six month. For Europe, however, things can be changed should a player makes a come back by January, where his name can be added should his return to his form and fitness.
Manchester United were held to a dramatic 3-3 draw at Goodison Park today. The Red Devils were comfortably ahead 3-1 till the 90th minute mark, but in injury time, David Moyes’s men managed two goals to frustrate the 18 time Champions.
United lost nothing but two important points in that encounter and would be looking to bounce back from such a result. United would now be hosting Glasgow Rangers next on Tuesday in their first match of the UEFA Champions league season.
