The 49-year-old tactician took over the managerial hot seat at Philips Stadion at the start of the 2009/10 season and managed to guide his side to a third place finish in his debut season.
At the start of the 2010/11 campaign, title expectations in Eindhoven were high, and the Eindhoven giants were on track until the final six weeks. Rutten’s men choked badly and finished at the third spot yet again.
Although the PSV fans called for Rutten’s scalp, the club management decided to continue with the 49-year-old in the ongoing 2011/12 season. History was to repeat itself, and PSV have derailed their season in the final few weeks.
