Breaking News: Pedro Rodriguez to move to Manchester United
Sources inside the Spanish Champions Barcelona have stated that winger Pedro Rodriguez has expressed his desire to sign with Manchester United.
The winger has complained about first team opportunities with Catalan Giants and stated that the only club which won’t be a step down would be Manchester United. The player played an integral part in Spain’s World Cup winning campaign this summer but has
fell down the pecking order of manager Pep Guardiola. A product of Barcelona’s youth academy, Pedro has always been overshadowed by other wingers, which included the likes of Lionel Messi, Andreas Iniesta and Thierry Henry. The 23-year-old feels that he has
come of age of enjoying first team football. The player fears that his development may suffer owing to lack of opportunities and thus wants to join Manchester United.
With the departure of Wayne Rooney eminent from the club, Pedro would be a welcome signing by manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who is also short of winger owing to a prolonged injury to Antonio Valencia. Ryan Giggs, 37, also cannot feature in every fixture and
may be playing in his last season for the Manchester based club. Pedro, therefore, can prove to be the perfect replacement for the veteran. Pedro also expressed his admiration of Ryan Giggs and said that he used to idolize the Welshman when he was little.
Pedro has made only 78 appearances for the club so far and has scored 24 goals. His goal tally was more than that of first team starter Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but still hasn’t impressed the manager and sees himself benched for most fixtures. The player has made
only 20 starts out of 78 appearances and seems discontent with the lack of opportunities.
The Spanish National team coach Vicente del Bosque preferred to start the youngster in favour of Fernando Torres in the World Cup final and Pedro operated extremely well on the left wing. His through balls and pin-point crosses created difficulties for the
Dutch National side and was also nominated for the best emerging talent in the World Cup.
Barcelona have said nothing official regarding this issue and would want to retain the services of the youngster. However, they must promise Pedro first team opportunities if they are to retain him. That seems highly unlikely though, as the side is already
over-crowded and there is bleak chance of Pedro getting any first team opportunities. United, on the other hand, are short on man power, especially on the wings, and Pedro’s move to Old Trafford would be welcomed by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Pedro
has the ability to operate on both wings owing to him being ambidextrous and would prove useful for the club who would soon be without the services of their best player, Wayne Rooney.
