Breaking News: Real Madrid face unfriendly reaction by Barcelona fans
Real Madrid’s squad faced a hostile reception, when they arrived at their hotel in Barcelona on Sunday night, ahead of the big match on Saturday.
It was reported that a bunch of outrageous Barca fans, attacked the team bus, and some of them also hurled stones at the bus. One stone, even hit the window, close to where Raul Albiol and Alvaro Arbeloa were seated. The security personnel quickly guided the team to safety, inside the hotel and no Real player was injured. Earlier this month, it was decided to shift the fixture to Monday night, keeping in mind the security concerns due to local elections being held on in Catalonia, on Sunday.
After the incident, the presidents of both clubs issued a joint statement today. Sandro Rosell, of FC Barcelona, and Florentino Perez of Real Madrid, urged fans to remain calm while supporting their respective teams. The Blaugrana president also mentioned that the match will not be the ‘title decider’, as quoted in the press. He stressed that anything can be expected. Rosell, who will taste the ‘El-Clasico’ for the 1st time as president of Barcelona, stated
"I hope that tonight we see a great spectacle and a lot of fair play. We have to send a message to the whole world that two great rivals like Barca and Real Madrid must dedicate themselves to playing and showing that soccer does not divide but unite. It won’t be decisive by any means. Whoever wins tonight will not be champion as there is a lot of the season left and there are other teams, not just Barca and Real.”
Perez, whose side lost the corresponding fixture last season, advised the players to uphold the spirit of the game during the 90 minutes. He said,
“It’s a day of celebration. Two of the best teams in the world meet today and it’s a match that attracts all soccer fans around the world. We will respond accordingly, not only with fair play but also by playing good football as we are obliged to."
Jose Mourinho has already admitted that, he does not expect a friendly reception from the Camp, Nou faithful. Jose, who guided FC International to UEFA Champions League glory this year, dumped Barcelona out of the competition in the semi-final stage.
