Breaking News: Roy Hodgson aims to sign 5-6 players
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has admitted he wants to bring 5-6 new players to Merseyside this January.
The coach explained his decision owing to the rumours surrounding Fernando Torres and confessed he may not be able to hold the 27-year-old striker at the club. Since Hodgson’s arrival at the Merseyside club, Liverpool has gone from bad to worse. The side,
which finished 7th in the league last season, are currently battling relegation and have made their worst start to a premier league season in history. In a total of 11 premier league fixtures, the side has managed just 9
points and have lost to some of the low lying sides in the league.
The manager has, therefore, given his remedy to the problem, claiming that the current squad needs to be improved in order to pick up the side’s current form. The manager pointed towards lack of attacking players to be the major reason behind such a form
and aimed to add more strikers.
"We are going to be very interested in improving our squad in January. I'm prepared to accept that a number of players we're looking to sign do make five or six - but I don't wish to specify positions other than one is obviously a front player. In January
we should be really looking to solve one or two situations. We are desperately short of players. Front players," claimed the Liverpool boss.
Hodgson added that the current three players, including Babel, are not up to the mark and Liverpool need to have a striker replacing Torres. Many expect the 26-year-old Spaniard to leave the Merseyside club this season, as the player hasn’t won a single
trophy with the club in 4 years. Torres has been phenomenal with the Reds since his arrival and has average 20-30 goals each season. Despite of this, the striker couldn’t guide Liverpool to any trophy and have always been second best. The striker is considered
to be one of the top players in Europe and was nominated for the World Player of the year award thrice.
Roy Hodgson’s days at Liverpool seem numbered and may well be sacked if a poor string of results carry on. However, Hodgson has shut himself out of this question, claiming that his job is quite secure at the club and would stay at the helm for the remainder
of the contract. Liverpool host Chelsea next week and that would be the perfect time for Hodgson to show his true quality. If the side is able to stop Chelsea, Hodgson’s respect in front of fans and players would increase and may form the basis to kick start
Liverpool’s form in the league.
