Breaking News: Roy Hodgson fears Fernando Torres' exit to Manchester United
Liverpool's manager, Roy Hodgson fears that Wayne Rooney’s departure from Manchester United might lead to Red Devils looking for the services of unsettled Fernando Torres. Liverpool and Manchester United have immense rivalry between them and for Torres to
move there, would shake the entire structure of the Premier League.
The manager was well aware of the current situation at the club and stated that owing to the recent dip in form of the club, Torres can move to another club. However, Hodgson was adamant to retain the services of the 26 year old and would do everything possible
to keep him content at Liverpool.
With Rooney’s open declaration to leave his club, speculations have already started regarding who Ferguson would sign to replace the striker? It were Chelsea and Manchester City who were interested in hiring Torres this summer, but with Rooney in the market,
Torres is also expected to take over where the English International left off. The Liverpool man lacks form this season as the player has just managed one goal so far and doesn’t look like his usual self.
"I think I'd have to say we'd cross that bridge when we come to it. I am pretty sure when a great player like Wayne Rooney is looking to leave his club, Manchester United will be in a position to target an awful lot of players around the world”, said the
Liverpool manager.
Rooney’s departure news has shocked the entire planet as the player, who once sang songs about his loyalty for the club has just turned his back on it, claiming ambition to be the reason. Torres can become a perfect replacement for United, who have long
been the admirers of this player.
"I don't think Fernando Torres would be the only player they will be targeting or [we would be] the only club worried that their star striker is going to be a target”, added the former Fulham manager. He maintained that Rooney’s departure will open doors
for the star striker to join the club, which is arguably the best in UK. That is the reason why Hodgson chooses to remain on his toes and is alert for any deals regarding Torres.
The manager concluded, saying that he can only hope for the player to stay at Liverpool and wants Torres to be happy at his present club, also vowing to help him with anything to get his form back and take him back to the level of previous seasons.
Liverpool are currently in a world of trouble and battling relegation. With six points from 8 fixtures, the side is level in terms of points with West Ham United and Wolves and is second from the bottom. Hodgson’s tenure at the club has come under heavy
fire following the recent results and he could well be on his way out if this form persists.
