Breaking News: Roy hails Carragher as Moyes expressed his desire to welcome David Beckham at Everton
Roy Hodgson, Liverpool’s manager who took up his post with the Merseyside giants in the summer of 2010 after the last predecessor Rafael Benitez parted ways with Anfield; come out and praised Liverpool’s veteran defender Jamie Carragher. Carragher has featured
in about 650 fixtures for the Reds and has many a time stepped as the inspirational leader for the Kop, another reason why many Merseyside fans hail him as the finest defender ever to grace the sacred turf of Anfield.
Roy explained the qualities that Carragher posses as well as the influence he has at the club when the ex-Fulham manager said, "Having seen him through the years for Liverpool and even England you see a man who is so whole-hearted, honest, passionate, dedicated
and enthusiastic. All of that shines through on the field of play. When I came here I was hoping that would be the person I would meet and it was.”
He added, "The reason he has played so many games is because of his attitude and his desire. He is a man who wants to play football. Even though he has 650 Liverpool appearances behind him he is still as enthusiastic in training every day and still as desperate
to play every week as the guy who would be making his debut. From the offset he's tried his best to make certain everyone rallies round to the cause and I'm really pleased to have him.”
Carragher recently played in his testimonial match for the Reds against Everton. Roy elaborated a bit further on Jamie as he stated, "We have been lucky in having him and Steven Gerrard, two people who really epitomize Liverpool Football Club and who are
the ultimate club men. Club loyalty is something which has tended to go out of the window with the transfer market and the money involved in football. With Jamie and Steven we see it and as the current manager of the team I can only be very grateful for it."
On the other hand, Everton’s manager David Moyes has said that he would love to welcome David Beckham to the Goodison Park, if the opportunity presents itself to do so. Beckham who has had stints at A.C Milan in previous years whenever his real club, L.A
Galaxy have taken a break, earlier on in his career, Beckham used to play for Manchester United, a club that he supported as a kid.
Moyes said, "I would hope that if David wanted to come he would pick up the phone and call me. If he wanted to come back to the Premier League he would only need to phone me or Phil (Neville) and we would be here for him. He knows how to get hold of Phil
and he knows how to get hold of me. “
He concluded by saying, "We would have to look into it financially, but if he came and said to me I would like to come and play I would have to go to the chairman and ask if we could do it, if we think we can make it work by selling enough shirts."
