Breaking News: Steve McLaren given marching orders at Wolfsburg
German football club Wolfsburg have sacked their manager Steve McLaren with immediate effect following a disappointing run in the league and probably the lack of goals. Die wolfe have not been able to score since the start of the New Year; they
last scored on the 18th of December 2010.
McLaren got the vote of confidence from the club on the 23rd of December 2010 but since then, the Englishman has struggled at the club and their performance has taken a big dip. The club is currently sitting on the 12th spot, after
attaining the 6th spot during the same ongoing season.
McLaren took over the managerial responsibilities at the club in May 2010 after leading the Dutch side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 to a surprise title win in Eredivisie. McLaren also became the first Englishman to manage a professional football club in German Bundesliga.
There is a common opinion about McLaren that he seems in control while managing the players who are less known to the football world. That point was brought to light when Wolfsburg’s Brazilian midfielder Diego ignored the orders given by the Englishman regarding
the penalty kicks.
McLaren was pretty clear in stating that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrick-Helmes-c29274 would be their first choice striker but Diego defied the orders and took the penalty himself which he eventually missed, to add to the drama.
Some believe that this also might be the reason behind McLaren’s sacking who lacked powers to manage the top internationals.
But, all these claims prove to be wrong if we look into the history of Steve McLaren. The Englishman was an assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, a top premier league club, from 1999-2001.
He then managed another premier league club, Middlesbrough for 5 years. He was also the manager of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 national squad from 2006/07. He then managed to win the Dutch league with FC Twente in 2009/10 season. This was Twente’s first ever title in their
history.
He was then employed at a German club http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881, where he was doing fine until the start of the New Year. The Bundesliga club finally lost patience with the Englishman and gave him the marching orders with immediate effect.
Wolfsburg will have to find a new manager very soon, a replacement that can revive their season. Die wolfe are currently just 1 point clear of the relegation zone.
