Breaking News: Steven Defour denies Manchester United contact
Red Devils' long time target, Steven Defour has declared that Manchester United have made no contact with him yet.
The Standard Liege midfielder has been constantly monitored by the English heavyweights and they were rumored to sign the 22 year old in this summer’s transfer window.
Man United are currently in the process of looking for their long term replacement of Paul Scholes, who is nearing his retirement. Scholes has been one of United’s most consistent performers in the past 20 years and is in the form of his life despite being
35 year of age.
The player is in his 16th year with the Red Devils, but would have to call it a day sooner than later. Defour, therefore, remains the next Paul Scholes for the Premier League heavyweights, but they were unable to sign him owing to his broken foot,
last January.
However, with the 22 year old now fully fit and enjoying his best years in the Belgian league, some of the best clubs in Europe have turned their eyes on him and he can join anyone of them when the transfer window re-opens this January.
Defour has confessed his love for his present club but fears to leave it one day owing to take his career to the next level. "I know that Manchester United are closely monitoring my situation. There hasn't been any official contact yet though," said the
midfielder.
The player has all the makings to become the next big thing at Manchester United while Sir Alex Ferguson also prefers to sign youngsters who have the talent to reach mega heights if they spend some time with the most successful British club to date.
"I've been sidelined for quite a while due to injury, but I'm playing at a high level again. The chance that I'll leave the club is rather big if I continue to play like I currently do. I've had the opportunity to leave Standard on more than one occasion
in the past couple of seasons, but I loved the club too much to leave. However, I'm 22 years old now and I also have to think about myself”, stated the 22 year old.
Defour would fit perfectly in the current United squad as the midfielders there are not upto the mark to win any trophy. Apart from Scholes, who also cannot feature in all games, the other midfielders lack the magic and creativity needed on the pitch to
create perfect balls for strikers to capitalize on.
"There comes a time when you just have to make the next step in your career, regardless of sentiments for any club", maintained Steven Defour.
