Breaking News: Wayne Rooney and Owen Hargreaves to miss Manchester Derby
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that striker Wayne Rooney and midfielder Owen Hargreaves are going spend more time on the sidelines.
Wayne Rooney recently signed a new 5 year contract with Old Trafford after week long of speculations surrounding the 25 year old, where the player had admitted he wanted to leave the Manchester based club. However, the player has been
sidelined for the next three weeks owing to a knee concern and has therefore been ordered to stay away from all sorts of training. The player got injured from a tackle from team mate Paul Scholes on October 18th, which would mean he would have been
back in the days leading to the first Manchester Derby of the season at 10 November. But, manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney would not be playing no part of the trip to City of Manchester Stadium.
"Wayne's away at the moment, so there's no recovery. He did his remedial work before he went away, but thereafter we're happy that he's resting,” stated Sir Alex. On the question of whether the player will be back in three weeks, the manager
replied it may take longer than that. However, Sir Alex Ferguson was extremely delighted with the form of Mexican Javier Hernandez, which is a mega boost with Wayne Rooney on the sidelines.
“The only injuries to report are the ones we know about. Ryan (Giggs) should start training on Monday, I think he’s progressed quite well now. Michael Owen unfortunately picked up a hamstring injury in training. That’s disappointing for
him and he’ll be out for four or five weeks,” stated Sir Alex Ferguson.
“Owen Hargreaves is still recovering from a long-term injury. I can’t see [him playing in the next few weeks]. He was making very good progress when he first came back, but it seems to have stalled a little bit and he is back with the
physios now. But they’re the only injuries we have at the moment and we have quite a strong squad at the moment. We hope it stays that way,” added the Manchester United boss.
The Man United boss expects his side to step up their progress in the league and retort back to their winning ways. Despite being undefeated in the league for the past 20 premier league fixtures, United are currently 3rd in
the premier league and have managed 5 draws already this season. Without Rooney, however, United chances to extract a win over rivals Manchester City may be bleak. A plus point however is that former United striker Carlos Tevez is also not expected to feature
in the match, which would make things easier for the Red Devils.
