Breaking News: Wayne Rooney ruled out for 5 more weeks
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of action for the next 5 weeks, according to manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The player was enroute to a successful recovery from his ankle concern but the manager has ruled the player out for the next
5 weeks.
The striker injured his ankle during training, where teammate Paul Scholes made a harsh tackle on the English Star. It was first revealed by Sir Alex that the player would be out for three weeks but owing to little progress on recovery, Ferguson has ruled
out the player for the next 5 weeks. This means that Rooney would play not part of any action in November and would be missing in the Derby match against Manchester City on Nov 10th.
"I think Wayne Rooney will be out for another five weeks. He'll have to pick up his fitness again. I would think five weeks should be about right," claimed the Manchester United boss.
The injury to the side’s best player may be a huge blow but United have been doing fairly well without him. With Nani, Berbatov and Javier Hernandez in top form this season, Rooney’s absence has not affected United’s form and managed a great victory against
Tottenham Hotspurs last night. Rooney, who scored 34 goals last season, lifted the entire expectations of the club on his two shoulders last season and was voted the best player in the premier league. This season, however, Rooney has failed to find his stride,
form and fitness and has only scored one goal, that too coming from the penalty spot. The 25-year-old has not scored a single goal in open play since March and would want to speed up his recovery in order to get back on the scoring sheets.
With Rooney out of action, in-form Mexican Javier Hernandez can expect more starts as he has been the best player for the team in recent weeks. Hernandez has scored three times in three premier league starts and has scored 6 times in 11 appearances for the
Red Devils. That is an impressive record for a player who only just arrived at United from Mexico and came on the radar since his signing with the premier league club. Hernandez has the instincts to be a killer striker and has the speed to defeat any defence
line. That helps him to get in the right areas quickly and is a natural finisher of the ball, which is exactly what United needs owing to the absence of Wayne Rooney.
