Mardy Fish confident about making Top 10 in 2011
American tennis pro, Mardy Fish ended this year with a career-high ranking of World No. 16, and his success in 2010 makes him confident that with the right kind of effort and training, he will be able to crack the Association of
Tennis Professionals top ten rankings in 2011.
Fish said, “I have very high expectations, higher than I've ever had. I'm healthy, fit, confident. So I don't think it's unrealistic to aim for the top 10. I don't have many (rankings) points to defend the first half of the year.
The first three Grand Slams, I didn't get past the second round.”
With these statistics in mind, all Fish needs is a little more consistency throughout the year. If he manages to get past the second round of the Majors in the first half of the year and score some victories on clay, the Top 10
will be very much within reach.
Srdjan Djokovic criticizes Serbian Tennis Federation
Srdjan Djokovic, father of World No. 3 tennis pro Novak Djokovic, has made his contempt of the Serbian Tennis Federation clear, by telling the Serbian media that he feels the STF had “nothing to do with Serbia’s Davis Cup victory.”
The elder Djokovic, whose family runs the Belgrade ATP event, told the media that the players and their families were the only ones who deserve credit for the Davis Cup success. However, he added that he does not have any desire
to take the position of Federation Chief from Slobodan Zivojinovic.
Srdjan says, “I have no ambition to take over from Zivojinovic but the [federation] needs a thorough reconstruction.”
Davis Cup team captain, Bogdan Obradovic agrees completely with Srdjan Djokovic, saying, “The Djokovic family wants fresh forces to take over and I am sure this will happen because both the players and I support changes. We need
better facilities…I can assure you that staff changes will be made. The players have received slim financial support all these years while we have achieved an incredible result by winning the Davis Cup in our first final.”
American players Allie Kiick and Lauren Davis win Orange Bowl
Two American tennis players have scored victories at the prestigious Orange Bowl event in the 16’s and 18’s titles.
The winner of the 16s titles is 15 year old Allie Kiick, daughter of former Miami Dolphin Jim Kiick. She knocked out Catherine Harrison from Tennessee with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-0 win. Jim Kiick spoke to the Miami Herald, saying, “This
was more meaningful to me than winning the Super Bowl, and I mean that. In football, its 11 guys, and I expected to win those games. To see your daughter alone out there, fighting back like that and winning the Super Bowl of junior tennis at 15 is a magnificent
thing.”
Meanwhile, American teenager Lauren Davis won the 18’s title after beating out compatriot Grace Kim with a score line of 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-1. This is the 33rd victory Davis has had in 34 matches.
In the boys’ playoffs, the sole American player Alexios Halebian lost to Jannick Lupescu of the Netherlands in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, during the semifinals. British teenager George Morgan scored a 6-2, 6-3 win over Lupescu to
win the title.
