So I just got my new ice skates (Riedell Blue Ribbons) today and how do i Break them in? They do not necessary hurt they are just extremely stiff! It is kind of hard to bend my knees is they any ways to break them in? How long does it take to break them in? Is that 'bake the skate' a good idea or bad?

Sorry for all the questions! Thanks ahead of time!

  1. wear your skates at home w/ ur guards on. and walk around for awhile and try bending a lot. one of my coaches told me about the bake and skate thing, i never tried it. but since my coach suggested that to me before maybe you should give it a try?

  2. When I first started skating in them, it took me about 3 public sessions to break in. I was beginning to skate then.

Break your skates in by doing lunges, shoot-the-ducks, and crossovers. When you feel comfortable enough, begin doing backward crossovers and turns. Eventually you'll feel really comfortable, possibly after 3-4 sessions. Good luck! :D

  3. The best option is to go to a skate shop and they have special skate ovens.  They heat them in there and then put it on your foot so it moulds around your foot.  I wouldn't recomend doing it at home.  Also they have special machines that can indent the in side where you ankle bones are, which really helps.  When i got that done the skate was perfect the first time it was skated on.  I hope this helps.

  4. ok when breaking in new skates always leave the first hook undone the one at the bottom of the lace up area for about a couple of weeks to help increase the creases at the sides when you are getting creases at the side of the boots you know the leather is softening and becoming breakable! and then carry on as normal after a fortnight also try wearing them around the house walking in them to get them soft. dont bake the skates!

  5. personally i would not put my skates in the oven so prolly not. u should go skating for open skate and first skate forewards the first session then forwards with crossovers then backwards and backwards with crossovers the next. then do simple jumps like waltz, toe loop and salchow then spins and harder jumps and that should break your skates in for you.

good luck breaking in your skates!!!: )
