  1. Wear them for a few days of non-running.  Keep an old pair handy if your feet start to hurt.  ideally a really good pair of running shoes should feel great right from the start without a need to break them in.

  2. wear them when you dont run or you could just do like a mile or so til they are ok and you can run longer

  3. New running shoes should never need to be broken in. Period. If you feel like they do, then you are not getting shoes that fit properly. I had a hard time wrapping my head around this, until I got my first pair of fitted running shoes. Not only did they fit like a glove, they hug your feet, so they don't rub in strange places. Go to your local running shop and tell them the issues you are having. They will make suggestions that will solve your problems, as well as, shoes that work for your specific gaite, pronation, etc. Don't worry, the analysis is free and there is no pressure to buy their shoes. My recommendations were for the Nike Vomero's. They were the best shoes I have ever worn and I haven't looked back nearly 3 years later. Good socks are also key. Get some nice Under Amour socks and you will see the difference.
