Keane has only made 2 starts this season for Tottenham under Harry Redknapp. Jermaine Defoe, Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyachenko all seem to be ahead of Keane in the pecking order.
The 30-year-old is desperate for more 1st team action and Birmingham City is sure to provide him with adequate playing time. Keane was the former club captain at White Hart Lane but has been out on the sidelines for a lengthy period of time now.
It was believed that many other English clubs were also looking to secure the services of Keane. West ham United emerged as one of the front runners along with Birmingham but the Hammers wanted to sign the player on a loan deal.
Spurs are desperate to strengthen their squad ahead of the UEFA Champions League knock out phase and require money therefore Keane has been made available in the transfer market.
Keane has valuable English Premier League experience as he has represented top clubs such as Leeds United, Liverpool and Tottenham. His experience will surely come in handy for a Birmingham side that does not score a lot of goals.
