Breaking news NHL preseason: New York Rangers win 5-1 against Detroit Red Wings
The New York Rangers were up against the Detroit Red Wings today and managed to defeat them 5-1. The performance was a dominating one by the New York Rangers who were looking forward to bounce back from a loss last time. On the contrary, the Detroit Red
Wings wished to continue the winning streak with another victory this time at Madison Square.
Despite of the fact that the Detroit Red Wings managed to come up with two early shots, the New York Rangers managed to score in the second minute through a Marion Gaborik 39 feet shot. Continuing on the dominating performance that the Rangers were displaying,
they managed to come up with another goal in the fifth minute. The two-goal lead was a result of 36 feet snap off by Sean Avery.
From then onwards, both teams were able to make chances but neither converted it into a goal. Both the rivals were very good in the department of passing and playmaking that resulted in plenty of scoring opportunities. The players settled down, and as time
passed the defence was seen dominating the period. However, in the last minute of the first period the New York Rangers scored once again. This time it was Mike Sauer who took the score to 3-0.
During the course of the first period the Detroit Red Wings managed to come up with 10 unsuccessful shots, whereas the New York Rangers scored 3 times out of 8 goal attempts.
The second period was on the slower side for the home team, New York Rangers. They managed to come up with 9 splendid shots but none was able to find the back of the net. On the contrary, the Detroit Red Wings came up with a dominating performance and gave
a total of 14 shots out of which they managed to score once. This took the score to 3-1 and with the final period remaining, the Detroit Red Wings hoped for a comeback.
However, this was not to be. Though the Detroit Red Wings managed to come up with 12 shots at the end of the final period, but to their disappointment they couldn’t score. The New York Rangers shut down any chances of a Detroit come back in the ninth minute
when they took the score to 4-1 through Rafalski.
Ruslan Fedotenko, left winger for the New York Rangers was named the star selection of the match as they won the match 5-1.
At the end of the match the New York Rangers goal keeper Henrik Lundqvist said “"It was a great team game, for me personally it felt pretty good to face a lot of shots.  We did a good job to force them into a lot of shots.  As a goalie it is a lot easier."
