Breaking news: Wayne Rooney may return to action against Wigan Athletic
Manchester United star Wayne Rooney could make a surprise return to first team action against Wigan Athletic on 20th November in the English Premier League after he arrived at the club’s training ground at Carrington.
The English striker last featured for United in their 2-2 draw with Bolton Wanderers in September and has only managed to make one substitute appearance since.
Rooney had been on a training trip to Nike’s headquarters in Oregon USA. The United manager first sent the player to Dubai to take a break from the action and then to Nike’s training centre in USA to ensure that he returned to
the form that saw him score 34 goals last season.
The trip to America was intended to work on Rooney’s conditioning and take him out of the media spotlight.
Sir Alex Ferguson has also made it clear to the England manager that Wayne will not be allowed to play in England’s friendly against France on Wednesday. Fergie would hate to see all his efforts go to waste by allowing him to go
on national duty, where he would have no control over the player.
Meanwhile, Red Devils midfielder Darren Fletcher has warned his teammates that United’s unbeaten record might not be enough to overthrow Chelsea at the top of the table. The United midfielder urged his fellow players to improve
their poor away form; Manchester United have drawn 6 out of their 7 league games away from home.
However, Fletcher was pleased to see the response from the red machine when they were 2 goals down at Villa Park.
He said, “It's not good enough. We need to start winning away because if you don't it will end up costing you the league. You can't wait for a kick up the backside, like going two goals down, to get us playing. You can't afford
to keep doing that. Of course you get a response when you lose goals like that, that's natural and to come back into the game shows great character. The only consolation is the way we came back. You have to look for positives and we never lost the match. But
this is not the first time it's happened. At the beginning of the season, we were winning and then losing goals. Now it's a case of going behind and coming back.”
Despite their disappointing away form, United remain the only side that is unbeaten in the English Premier League.
