PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS BEFORE ANSWERING MY QUESTION!!!!!!!!! I've been on the Depo-Provera birth control shot for a little over 2 years now and I've had no periods and no problems until now. I got my last shot in late June of this year and I had a slight period when I had never had one on the shot before. I told my doctor when I went to get the shot, and she told me that everything was fine but that I might want to be concerned if it happened again. It is happening again. With a lot more blood and it's been happening daily for at least a week and possibly longer. Paranoia and fear of knowing about a problem, made me not do so well at keeping track. I'm afraid I could be pregnant and I'm only 17. I have been sexually active throughout getting my shots so it is possible. Is there anyone out there who can help me out? I'm so afraid about this that I've only told my closest friends and my boyfriend, but even with doing that I feel so alone. I'm really freaking out about this so anyone who can tell me exactly where I can find exactly the information I need (Everything concerning Depo-Provera, breakthrough bleeding, and pregnancy all in one article) please do so immediately. Any help I get with this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read the incredibly long details to my question. I can't wait to see your answers.

  1. I know you say you've been on the shot for 2 years with no problems, but as your body is still changing and maturing, it's possible for it to have only just started to have this kind of reaction to the shot itself, which may have nothing at all to do with pregnancy.

I'm going to share a personal story, just because it's all I could think about to help you. I was on the Depo-Provera shot for a little under a year and I had pretty much what you're describing almost this whole time.  It just didn't work for me as it was supposed to. The birth control part is pretty much foolproof, but your body's reaction to it could have changed.

All I can suggest is waiting a while to see if it goes away - I waited a obviously for a year, in which time my body just wouldn't adjust - eventually I went on the pill and have had no problems like this since.

I hope you work out what's going on with you, but if at any time you aren't happy with it - see your doctor and see what other options are available.
