Question:

Breast-Feeding Baby and Parental Visitation...?

Another question posted in this section got me thinking...HOW does a Court handle visitation with a Baby and it's Father if the baby is still Breast-Feeding? Has anyone here had that experience? Are you (the mother) told to somehow modify your breast-feeding (pump your milk for the visitation,Stop nursing all-together, force the baby to be given formula for the visitation time) What happens here?

  1. I read about this when my cousin was going to be in that situation.  The courts want to give visitation in the least distruptive way.  If a baby is exclusively breastfeeding (i.e. mom stays home, baby never gets bottles, etc) they won't mess with that relationship. They might have to make the visitation be where the mom is available to breastfeed on demand. If a baby goes to daycare while mom works, being away from her for a several hours won't be as disruptive as the first example (in the court's eyes).  The child's best interest is more important than what the father wants or his "rights."  There are some articles on the LaLeche League website dealing with this too.
