Question:

Breast feeding a teething baby?

My daughter is only 3 1/2 months old but she just started teething. I noticed 3 days ago. I know she is teething for sure. I see and feel the little bumps where the bottom 2 teeth will come in, she is super crabby, drooling like crazy, gnawing on her hands and occasionally on my nipples. How do I make breast feeding an enjoyable experience for both of us when she is using my nipples as a teething ring? Also, Im living in Germany where they dont have infant tylenol. What can I give her to help with the pain?

  2. a properly nursing baby will not bite. If shes biting shes not drinking, so simply take her off your breast and give her a teething ring or toy to chew on.

I got some homeopathic teething drops, all natural ingredients, for my baby

  3. Maybe this would protect you from those tiny little teeth coming in. http://store.babycenter.com/product/brea...

  4. Do they have Baby Orajel for teething pain? Also try a cold wash cloth that she can chew on. My six month old loves that. Good luck i'm going through the same thing!!

  5. I'm sure they have some equivalent in Germany - try looking for Calpol, that's what we have in England and I believe it's the same active ingredient as tylenol. I think it's for 3 months and up (mine are older now and I've forgotten...)

Also look for baby Nurofen, but I suspect that has an older bottom age limit.

About all you can do as far as the teething goes is just to stop feeding when she starts chewing - if she's hungry, she'll feed rather than teethe. If she wails, then let her feed some more, but if she just wants to chew then give her a less sensitive teething ring (or you could try a dummy? Mine loathed teething rings but gummed her dummies contentedly until her teeth came in).

I hear you, though - isn't it just awful when they do that? I gave up breastfeeding when mine had sharp teeth top and bottom and started drawing blood :( thankfully you're some way off that stage yet.

  6. Firstly regarding the pain I am not too sure what Germany has on the Market, but Calpol is available for children aged 2+months however you need to make sure it is the right kind (120mg/5ml Paracetamol suspension) and she can only get a single 2.5ml spoon dose. Hope this helps however the best thing to do is try ur pharmacist.

Also regarding breastfeeding, if you are finding it too difficult (understandably) but still want your daughter to get breast milk you can always express feed and there are plenty of products on the market to help (I express feed my daughter from three days til 6months) if you need help and advice on this please contact me :).

  7. Bonjella is good for the pain.

Not too sure about the rest of it as ive never had any babies.
