Breast-feeding moms... I have a question?

Do you have to wear nursing breast pads 24-7? Even to bed? Do you leak all the time? Or just on occasion?

When I breast fed my daughter (unfortunately only for 2 months due to an intolerance), I would leak A LOT, when I was getting ready to breast feed, and it would drip onto my stomach and it really bothered me- I don't know why.

  1. I still wear a nursing bra 24/7, but only had to wear the pads in the first 2 - 3 months.  And not all the time then.  When one side lets down while you're nursing, you may leak a little out the other side.  It does get better after you're more accustomed to your baby's eating habits.  It's a learning process for both of you & your body.  If you're getting ready to feed, then you're likely engorged.  The baby will eat and you'll be done.  You can always pump before you feed the baby.  You can put your wrist to a leaking nipple to stop the flow/drips.   I did have problems leaking a lot during the night and wake up because turning on each side hurt because I was so engorged.  And sometimes woke up with my shirt, bra, & sheets soaked.  It just happens.  It's doesn't happen a lot anymore.  I'm still breast feeding my 10-month-old.  Good luck.

  2. I only did for the first 6-8 weeks or so while my milk supply was adjusting to the supply/demand issues.  After that they weren't necessary.

  3. yeah. mii mom said if you hear any baby crying you would leak she said youd would grow out of it.. im still breast feeding i really wanna switch to kuz i had a little infection but its goin away after i had him on the bottle for half a day really helped.

yeah you do have to use a nursing pad all the time or youll soak through your shirt, i thiink you jus start leaking when you get to full or hear a baby crying.

  4. i do wear them but i don't HAVE to, just incase. After the first month or two my milk supply regulated pretty well so i don't leak very much, just when he doesn't feed properly or decides to sleep through the night occasionally, and sometimes if i sleep putting too much pressure on my b***s then i might leak but i wear them just in case coz that would be pretty embarrassing.

  5. I only worry about wearing them when I am out of the house. I only drip when I am feeding my son, both sides let down at the same time. As long as you are wearing a good supportive bra your supply goes down to just what the baby needs so you don't tend to drip as often. It still happens from time to time though.

  6. I used to wear the pads 24/7 when my baby was about 2 months old. Now I wear them only at night as I seem to leak when I'm sleeping, maybe I'm dreaming about my baby.

  7. I never wear breast pads, I find them way too annoying.

I leak sometimes.  But basically I have noticed I only leak for two reasons:

    1) My baby/toddler have been too distracted to nurse properly so I am overfull

    2) I am yeasty so I make a bit too much milk and leak a bit more -I don't know why I do know treating the yeast helps.

  8. Always! Both let down at the same time. I cannot tell you how frustrating it was to wake up with wet sheets and a wet shirt. I wear two pads on my left side at night because i only feed my son on my right breast. Also, I've got an overactive letdown, without nursing pads, its a real mess!

  9. I have to use them all thew time and my DD is now 4 months, I mainly use them still "just in case" and def at night time because now she sleeps through the night I leak everywhere because I get so full, but I mainly only leak now if I get full, they used to leak and I would get a letdown all the time but now that has settled down now and I always leak from the other breast when she is feeding from one

  10. i wear mine all the time, but my baby's only 3 weeks old so i haven't picked up on a pattern yet either.

  11. I would use them more when I went back to work since I had to get use to my work schedule and pumping; but I'd just use them when I'd be away from my home, baby or pump for several hours.
