I heard that stimulating your nipples can induce labor, if I used a breast pump, could it work? Has anyone tried? I am 38wks/3days preg and have tried nearly everything... I don't think my tummy can expand anymore. My stretch marks are like road maps!!!

  1. Tried it, and it didn't work. I think the only thing I accomplished was wasting my colostrum....But to be honest, it made me feel better that I had actually tried it!

  2. do not induce ,that can have serious complications and  most likely lead to a c section, please wait your baby will come   out when it needs to come out

  3. It's too early to try to induce.  While you're "term" the baby really isn't done yet and you shouldn't push it or you can cause more complications than benefits.  If the baby ends up stressed and passes meconium in the womb, it can get in the baby's lungs causing the lungs to stick together and not expand.  If they don't expand, then the baby can't breathe.  If it can't breathe... well you know the rest.  It results in tubes being put down the baby's nose and throat to suction it out and often a lot of respiratory support the first couple of days.  Is risking a NICU stay for the baby worth eliminating an extra week or so of discomfort?  I'd say not.  Just be patient.  The baby will be here soon enough and you'll have your body back.

  4. Nipple stimulation may work but you shouldn't pump becuase you will only be pumping COLESTRUM, the highly nutritive supplement for your baby.

Try walking, drinking & even s*x - I heard that "the same way they got in there" is the same way the come out sometimes.

    Good Luck!

  5. You can try it, but if your body really isn't ready to go into labor, it won't work.  You need to be VERY careful, because using the pump to induce can cause very strong contractions that can be dangerous to the baby.  You would apply the pump for about 5-10 minutes on each side.  If you start to have contractions, remove the pump IMMEDIATELY.  When the contraction ends, you can reapply.  Just be sure to remove the pump immediately if you start to have a contraction.  If your contractions start and you have 3 or 4 strong ones in a row, discontinue use of the pump and see if the contractions continue.  Just be careful.

The fact is that even though 38 weeks is technically "full term", your baby might not be quite ready.  Your best bet is to let nature take its course.

    Good luck!
