I breastfed my other two kids, Izzie and Alfie and want to breastfeed my twins.

Have you done it and is it easy? Do you think it is worth it?

  1. i dont see why it wouldnt work. You might want to not put the idea of formula totally out of your head. Sleep is needed at some point. LOL.

  2. I haven't done this but I have a friend who has identical twins and has done this.  It's very possible your body will produce enough milk.  You should do a search online for tandum nursing and you can find information and positions on how to make everyone more comfortable.

    Good luck to you!

  3. when i had twins...the hospital wanted me to have a pillow under each arm...with a baby on each & breast feed them at the same time!  i chose not to...i was tired after the birth & chose the bottle...but - it is possible to breast feed them!

  5. I haven't done it but it is possible but its hard work i am told.

  6. I haven't done it, but many moms have. Join a twins group, particularly a local group.

  7. I would highly suggest you find a lactation consultant to help you. There is nothing more beneficial than breastmilk for your babies, so I definitely think it is worth it. It might take a little more commitment from both you and your husband (as I recall, my brother in law was quite involved with the breastfeeding process; I think maybe he would hold one baby and then they would trade. I'm not sure though).

  8. Yes ... you've got two nipples haven't you? :O

  9. i did,,,,unfortunately i ran out.  i had to pump alot to release the pressure since i got rather large and they were so small they couldnt latch on properly.  i made it about 3 and a half weeks and then went to formula.  it wasnt easy i wont lie,,it was work but well worth it.  the lactation people made me feel like dirt (cried for days thinking i was the worst mommy on the planet) and the dr finally told me to get over it,,the babies got the best milk in those 3 weeks and that NOT all women can breastfeed.  i was tall and extremely thin when i got pregnant and he said i did not have enough body fat to make or store milk.  if i had listened to the consultants my babies would have lost TOO much weight and suffered for it.  i made the decision to add formula and keep my babies fed and healthy.

it can be a real job at times,,,but when it works it is great.  i wish you the best of luck and hope you have success it is worth it in the end.

my "babies" are now 11 and happy healthy intelligent slender normal kids.

i have seen breastfed kids with many medical problems and i have seen formula fed kids that are the picture of health.  it is luck of the draw if you ask me.

  10. it is possible! our birth instructor's friend sucessfully breastfed twins. i'm sure it isn't easy but i can't imagine it not being worth it. personally my main objective once i have my baby is to breastfeed. everything else will have to take the back burner so i can do the best thing for the baby.

    good luck!

  11. You sure can!  =0)

    Its  supply and demand!

It will be hard but I do think it will be so worth it! Even if you have to supplement at times if you need to sleep or whatever the case ... it will still be worth it! any breast milk you can give them will be greatly beneficial!  If you have any questions I suggest calling a lactaction consultant in your area. They will be glad to talk to you (you can call the hospital where you will deliver)

  12. Yes, it's very possible, speak to your healthcare provider, i think they might recommend that you supplement with formula  too, but it is very possible and totally worth it ( even if you only do it for a few weeks).

  13. *ABSOLUTELY* !!!

As a matter-of-fact, your milk will flow like the Niagra while both b*****s are producing at once!

    Good luck!

  14. Of course!  They may want to feed more frequently at first until your milk supply is established but it is totally possible and doable.  If you want you can pump and put it into bottles so that you know how much they are getting.  Contact your local La Leche League for more support and information or see if you can get in touch with a few breast feeding moms of twins.  It is very worth it, but I can probably say it may not be as easy as feeding just one.  But it's wonderful bonding time.

Good for you for wanting to give it a try :)  It's quite rewarding if you can do it.  I'm rooting for you!!! (no pun intended, lol)

  15. I tried to do it - my son wouldn't latch on and figure it out - it wouldn't have been that hard - honestly - I don't think it matters. I breastfed my first child and I'm just as bonded to the twins as I am her - also - the twins are actually healthier than the one who was breastfed. It comes down to whatever works for you and whatever you want to do.
