  1. Start with drinking 8 ounces of water every half hour , then to every hour.  Gradually go to 32 ounces minimum every day.  I do this when i am dehydrated & I start to feel sooo much better after easing into getting hydrated.  You will be peeing a lot, but thats what it takes to be healthy right now...

You need water water water and more water when nursing.  You will dehydrate your self & get backed up if not, as you have found out.

How do I know??  I have breastfed 5 kids & I also take allergy & thyroid medications that require a lot of water.  So get that water down!!!!!

  2. The best course of action is to make sure you are drinking several glasses of water a day and getting enough fiber in your diet. Avoid things like soda which will dehydrate you. Combine these things with some moderate physical activity such as a daily walk and you will be feeling much better.

  3. Warm prune juice.

  4. avoid any otc meds w/o consulting with your pediatrician-most likely this is just a function of being dehydrated, due to the amount of milk you are producing, here is a possible regimen:  1.  Make sure you get plenty of liquids, avoid caffeine, water is best.  2.  drink 6 to 8 ounces of warm prune juice, every morning, repeat as needed.  3.  make sure you are getting plenty of roughage, eg, whole grain cereals, like oatmeal, whole wheat bread and other basic foods.  good luck.

  5. im not sure what dulcolax is exactly, but you can take a stool softner. i had to when i was breastfeeding. eat lots of greens too, it will help, like brocoli, beans, or even corn.

  6. your constipated because you dont drink enough bloody water,8 glasses minimum, and do an e***a,or put the hose up your ***

  7. Yes you can take it, normally the doctor prescribes it to you when you leave the hospital. But it is safe to take. If you really want to be sure, any pharmacy will tell you what is and isnt ok for you to take while breastfeeding. Good luck. Congratz on the new baby!!

  8. Eat lots of Fiber rich foods.=)

  9. Dulcolax ( Bisacodyl) is a stimulant laxative that you need to be very cautious because active metabolites of the medication have been reported in breastmilk.

According to Micromedex:  Thomson Lactation Rating: Infant risk cannot be ruled out.

There have been no reports describing the use of bisacodyl during breastfeeding and the effects on the nursing infant from exposure to the drug in milk are unknown.  Bisacodyl is thought to be minimally absorbed into systemic circulation when administered orally.  Until more data are available, use caution when considering bisacodyl in lactating women.

I would suggest lots of water...hydrate well everyday.  I would also say that prune juice or high fiber source would be best for you at this time.  If you want quick relief, I would suggest to call your pediatrician and ask for recommendations.

Good Luck and I hope that you feel better.
