I'm still nursing my 9.5 month old and am newly pregnant. Only symptom so far seems to be a sharp decrease in my milk supply. My daughter won't take bottles and I'm not ready to wean anyway. I had hoped to BF throughout pregnancy which I already cleared with my OB and lactation consultant. But how to increase my supply? I'm drinking tons of water and am off to pick up some oatmeal. I'm also pumping 1-2x a day after feeding her. I'm also keeping an eye on her intake, upping her solids and fluids and letting her breastfeed as much as possible in hopes that increasing demand will increase supply.

Any other ideas?

  1. The doctor can give you something to increase your milk supply.

  2. I'm with Himmiy - it seems like you are already doing every thing I was going to suggest.  The only other option I would give you is talking with your lactation consultant about using a supplemental nursing system that way your baby is still getting the food she needs while your breast is still be stimulated with demand.  But I also want to encourage you - it sounds like you are doing everything you can!  I am proud of you to go to such length to continue breastfeeding you baby.

  3. Oatmeal is good and your doctor can prescribe something for you as well.

Pumping whenever you can is good too.  If you have time, before your baby wakes up and after she goes to bed at night is good.

  4. Wow, I wish I had some ideas.  Looks like you are doing everything I was going to suggest.  Along with eating the right foods...make sure you take care of yourself mentally as well.  Stress can really hurt your breast milk supply.
