Breastfeeding longer or not?

about two weeks ago i started to wein my baby from the breast but i started feeling really guilty about it so i stopped...i thought switching over to formula would make him start sleeping throught he night and all but i just can't get myself to actually stop...maybe it's even because he won't eat anything at all during the stretch of time that i managed to stop producing the milk or maybe just cos i feel a little selfish too...

i mean he's six months old and he just won't sleep at night....i talked to somebody that said that if i keep breastfeeding he won't sleep at night but others say that i should just cut him off for the night and let him just cry to sleep...

i'm torn...what should i do?????

  1. It is best to go for a year at the least. Six months is MUCH too young to cut off night time feedings. He could be having a growth spurt and just need more right now.

Even if you switched him to formula it probably wouldn't make him sleep through the night.

He will eventually! Don't worry! They are only this little once enjoy every moment of it, the good and the bad!

  2. 6 months is too young to stop breastfeeding Hun 1 yr at the youngest should they be weaned it doesn't matter if your breastfeeding or not that's not going to prevent night time waking

waking up at night isn't only because of hungry its caused by wetness being alone a bad dream ( yes babies can have good and bad dreams too )

  3. I'd say that it's safe to keep a baby on breast milk for as long as s/he can't speak in sentences. You should get a breast pump and put give it to him/her via bottle and when you're ready wean him/her off milk all together (just formula and breast is what I mean)

  4. dont cut out his feed for the night!!! if your baby is over 8 months you can offer water during the night but if hes still waking for a night feed its because he needs it, giving formula will not make him sleep better at night that is a myth! My daughter is 4 months and exclusively breastfeed and sleeps through the night so its just her as with your darling its just him, he needs the feed so offer, hes still too young to let him cry himself to sleep, if you feel guilty then its not right go with your instincts

  5. i believe that they stop when they r ready to stop. my daighter is now 2 and she still feeds but only at night time so she is slowly coming off but in her own time.

  6. i wish i could wean my baby, although im likeyou, i think id miss it and id feel like i wasnt giving my baby all i could.  i hardly have any milk i just never produced much but i let her suck and give her what i have even if its just for 2 or 3 minutes. if you just stopped breast feeding, you might still be able to get your milk back if you wanted to.  my baby eats cereal right before bed and that helps her sleep longer.  good luck .
