Question:

Breastfeeding mom, going to waterpark, what to do about leaky b*****s?

My husband and I are going to an amusement/waterpark this weekend without our children. I am breastfeeding our infant daughter. The question is, since I am breastfeeding, my breast get pretty leaky throughout the day. Any ideas on what I can do to prevent that at all? If I were to wear nursing pads under my bathing suit it would just be kind of pointless because the pads would get soaked in the water, but if I don't wear them, I don't want to walk around smelling like milk all day either! What should I do? Serious answers only please!

  1. I bought lilypadz for the exact same reason! I just used them for the first time at the pool on sunday and they were amazing!! I loved them :)  I found them the cheapest here : http://www.mom4life.com

They are really worth the 16$ I had no problems whatsoever!

  2. this is a hard one , have you tried asking in the chemist they must do something for it ,maybe try on line google breastpads for swimming or something, good luck

  3. if theyre gonna get soaked with water, why do you care about the leaking? who's gonna see?

  4. If you're that concerned about it then I would get the lily padz that everyone is suggesting. Its what I use on a daily basis, much cheaper than the disposables, and since they don't actually soak up the milk, you don't smell like milk. I bought mine at motherhood maternity. But If you're going to be in the water all day, then don't worry about it. You have to realize that the strong smell of chlorine in the water will keep you from smelling like breast milk. Have fun and good luck

  5. i have been there i understand even though you don't want to i would wear the breast pad but if your going to be in and out of the water slides all day(where you stay constantly/noticeably wet then i wouldn't worry about it wear just your bathing suit the water will wash aways some of the milk/ and smell and if your suit is wet chances are no one but you is going to realize its your milk especially if you have long hair it will stay wet for a while so have it on both sides covering your b*****s people will think its just wet from that also if you have excess to a hot private shower i don't know if they have them with curtains but if you start to hurt though-out the day just standing in the warm water will help ease the pain massage a little if you have to....good luck and have fun :)

  6. Try Lilypadz.  I have a pair that I use to keep my clothes off of my sensitive nipples.  They're really nice, but I haven't used them for actual leaking yet.  The only issue is that when I sweat (hey, it's summer in Kentucky), they tend to unstick.  Once they dry off, they start to stick again.

I wouldn't worry about leaking milk.  It's sterile, and the water should keep you clean.

If you're overfull, you could try to hand express some extra milk just to give you relief and stop the leaking.  Just lean over the bathroom sink and gently push!

The Gerber nursing pads are full of the same gel that causes disposable diapers to swell up in the water.  I know because I've accidentally washed many of them!

  7. What a great question.  I'd suggest you find a nursing pad that isn't very absorbent.  Sort of like how swim diapers don't puff up like regular diapers.  I used Medela nursing pads and they are really absorbent.  I tried to switch to cheaper pads (I think they were Gerber), and they sucked so I returned them.  But I think the sucky ones might be perfect for your situation.  They sell them at Target.

    Good luck & have fun!

  8. Generally, cold water stops the flow of breast milk, so you should be ok while in the water.  When you're out of the water, you can put in the breast pads.

  9. Check out Lilypadz- they'd be just the thing!
