Question:

Breastfeeding moms. If and when you pump, which bottles do you use?

I plan to breastfeed but I will be going to school one day a week and will need to pump. And occasionally, I'd like to let my husband feed our son a bottle.

Which bottles do you recommend?

(preferably ones that are carried by Babies R Us, where I'm registered)

  1. i'm in exactly the same situation, being at school one day a week, i have avent bottles but i had to go buy some more because they hav a different thread and dont fit onto my breastpump!! so i just bought some cheapies to use with the pump and he feeds from the avent ones

  2. Avent and Evenflo are both good bottles. They simulate the mother's breast.

  3. We used the Playtex VentAire Wide.  They have BPA, but we never put them in the dishwasher or microwave.  And we used the Playtex Drop-Ins latex nipple because our youngest didn't like the silicone ones that come with the VentAire.

  4. I liked the Playtex drop-ins. They have no BPA, the chemical that has been studied recently as causing problems in medical tests, and for a busy Mom (I work full-time), there's a lot less to wash. You can rinse the used liners and put them in the recycle bin, so you don't have to feel too bad about throwing away the plastic.

  5. I was an exclusive pumper.  I used the Avent bottles.  I liked them, they were easy to clean, and not that many parts, unlike Playtex vent-aire...

The Avent bottles have a bigger nipple, which they "say" makes it easier to go back from bottle to breast easier.

Make sure you have breast feeding down, and it's going well before you switch to a bottle.

  6. I used the soothie brand bottles when I was pumping for my last baby and it worked out good for us. I also used the bottles that use the liners from playtex they reduced air getting in the babies stomach plus you can store the milk in sealed bags and just pour it in the liner. .

  7. I really like the Playtex Drop-Ins. I think my baby preferred them as well in the beginning because of the nipple. I think it simulates the softness of the nipple best. My husband feeds our baby at least one time a day, when he gets home from work in the evening. The drop-ins are very convenient as well. We keep a stash in the diaper bag just in case rather than having to carry a few bottles with us if we aren;t able to clean them easily. They also do well with keeping as little air as possible out.

We also use the Soothie bottles from time to time as I have a Soothie manual pump. As for pumps, the best one is Medela brand. They are awesome.. a little pricey but hopefully it will be a shower gift. I got mine from a friend who rarely used hers. Also get a Medela manual pump so that you can pump at school... It is the best manual pump, I swear!

  8. We used the Playtex Drop-Ins system. My daughter had no problems switching from those to breast and back. All babies are different though, so you might have to try a few before sticking with one kind.

  9. You really have to wait and see what the baby likes and doesnt. I recommend Dr. Browns bottles though. They are amazing and they are used to colic babies and a lot of breastfred babies are.

  10. I also used the Playtex drop-in's, as they have a wide nipple that my daughter seemed to prefer over standard ones.  The drop ins also seemed to prevent gas as well.  We tried a few and they were the only ones that she would take.  (And I would recommend starting the bottle right away, as if you wait to long, some babies won't take any bottle.)

  11. playtex drop ins were the only one my daughter would take. And we tried many! I liked these bottle, and found them easy to care for.

  12. playtex drop ins and the playtex double electric pump is what i have to and it works great and is affordable

  13. i go 2 school 3 days a week.  what i do i pump every 2 hours & after i breast feed.  just 2 keep my supply up & have extra in the freezer.i use the glass evenflo.
