I know that all babies are different but I would like to know how many times a day does your baby eat especially if they sleep through the night. I have a 4 month old baby who sleeps through the night (9pm - 7am) and she eats about 4 - 5 times a day. She is breastfed and I'm always concerned whether she is eating enough even though she is getting wet and poopy diapers and is growing. I don't know why I'm always concerned but I wanted see how much other breastfed babies, who are sleeping through the night, at this age are eating.

Since I am working she has 3 bottles during the day (expressed milk) and eats between 4 - 6 oz in those bottles. I can't tell how much she eats when I directly breastfeed her but it doesn't seem much which is why I'm concerned.

  1. hey

i think you may have helped me....as my bub is 4 month and feeds 6 times on the breast but still wakes at night for a feed or two.

I think being on the expressed milk your little one might just be having bigger feeds.. i wouldn't worry as long as she is getting wet nappies and gaining weight.  If you get worried for any reason check with a doctor.

  2. I know exactly how you feel. I have a 4 month old baby and I was worried about the feedings also. I just recently began giving him baby cereal (rice/oatmeal). Mine at 4 month is 18lb breastfed only, but this does not mean that if your baby is smaller or bigger is not normal. every baby eats how much they need to eat. If you are still very concerned then I suggest you contact your pediatrician. I feed mine every 3 hours or so, and then when I give him the cereal for the night he goes from 9-9:30 pm to 3-3:30 am with no problem. I also started to give him baby food once a day just a bit to introduce him to new taste and texture. But consult your pediatrician before you start your baby on anything besides breast milk.

  3. when i was breastfeeding my daughter at tht age..she ate anywhere between 5-7 times a day...but my difference is is i didnt do bottles. your baby may be getting just a bit more when your expressing your milk.  as long as her diapers are fine and she is gaining weight...you have nothing to worry about.

  4. It sounds normal for your baby to eat 4-5 times a day. All babies are different and since your baby is growing and having lots of poopy diapers then you shouldn't worry. My 4 month old sleeps through the night and eats about 5 times a day and is breastfed. The doctor says she is perfectly fine.
