  1. Breastfeeding mothers *can* have caffeine, as long as it isn't a lot.  A cup of coffee in the morning or a can of soda isn't going to cause any problems.  Plus, not all sodas have caffeine.  Sprite/7Up, most root beers, and of course the caffeine free versions of Coke/Pepsi don't have caffeine.

  2. I drink soda. It doesn't seem to affect my baby. But I don't drink it all the time. I will have about one can of soda a day.

  3. Yes, I do drink pop ... not all the time, but if I have a craving!!! It never seemed to affect my baby ... :-) she was sleeping through the night by 2 weeks old ...

  4. My Lactation Consultant told me I could have 1 cup of coffee a day. She said I could try a little bit of caffeine and if I saw affects (irritable baby) then I should stop, but if not then I could have the caffeine.

The quality (iron, protein, etc) of your milk is based on a mixture of the things in your blood and things stored in your fat (from like before you ever got pregnant and things you stored while pregnant - all that pregnancy weight!). Breastmilk is the perfect food for babies because it contains exactly what they need. It will rob your body of the essentials to feed your baby (similar to when you were pregnant). So do not worry if you have an "off" day, but do try to eat healthy as much as possible for your own health.

  5. If I really want soda (and it's quite often, as it's my weakness), I drink caffeine free sodas. Sprite, Sierra Mist, caffeine free Pepsi and caffeine free Coke, Fanta Orange or Grape, A&W Root beer. Things like that. I ALWAYS read the ingredients and make sure it doesn't have caffeine. If it does, I don't buy it.

  6. What the heck is pop?

  7. I rarely drink pop.  It's not a good idea to load the baby on caffeine, for the baby's sake and for your sanity!  :)  But, a little bit shouldn't hurt.

  8. I don't drink any soda that has caffeine, I drink sprite or ginger ail.  I never really liked drinks with caffeine before getting pregnant so it wasn't a huge adjustment.
